Stairs leading to the other levels are anything but ho-hum. To one side, light streams in through columns of glass block inset into the sheetrock. To the other, large glass panels act as a stair rail, adding visual interest and clean-lined functionality. These features give an airy, almost floating feel to the staircase.
The second floor consists of the laundry room and the master bedroom and bath that connects to large his and hers closets.
“One feature I really wanted in my closet was a vanity,” says Sherry. The master bedroom is both a private retreat and a lookout point, thanks to a track-led screen that the couple can open for views of the other levels and Memorial Park.
A large utility closet, guest room and a bathroom outfitted with cabinets in a bright orange ( “I wanted something fun and bold in there,” says Sherry) share space on the third floor with a spacious exercise/media room. Two Murphy beds are built into the wall in the exercise/ media room to accommodate additional guests.
Perhaps the most extraordinary component on this level is Barry’s office that has a modern tree-house feel from its third-story perch. Casement windows are easily opened to let nature in and access to a bridge-like upper balcony provides a high vantage point for views of the neighborhood and park.
“This is my favorite view of the house’s interior,” says Barry, looking over the home’s three levels from a corner of this space. “The view is spectacular at night with all the lights on. We really love the place. ”
A bridge-like balcony extends the treehouse feel of the house, allowing for excellent views of Memorial Park and the neighborhood. • A view from the back of the property. A pass-through “margarita” window (right) was Barry’s idea for easy serving while entertaining.
