Events benefiting animal charities always bring out the zaniest ideas…like “Fierce and Fabulous” the Houston PetSet Soiree coming up on Sept.11. Twin sisters Tama Lundquist and Tena Faust are joining Courtney Hopson to chair this blowout for animal welfare
organizations.

Then there’s “The Fur Ball” for the Houston Humane Society on Oct. 10, chaired by Karen and Bob Aspromonte and Beverle and Marc Ostrofsky and honoring Pat Lykos, Belinda Smith and Frank Billingsley.

Not to be outdone, The Houston SPCA gala on Nov.  14 is titled “Catsanova” with chairs Amanda Vanis and Kelly Provine stirring up a potpourri of pet antics.

The long-running CAP Celebrity Paws Gala “Home for the Holidays” on Nov. 21 is chaired by décor king Darryl Murchison, who always puts a fresh spin on creative themes. So pick your favorite pet charity and be a part of action.

There are still a couple of summer happenings before we launch into the fall social swirl. The Houston Astros Wives 20th annual Black Ties and Baseball Caps Gala unfolds Aug. 6 on the field at Minute Maid Park. Michelle Quintero and Pamela Michaels are co-chairing, with beloved emcee Milo Hamilton at the mike. Drayton and Elizabeth McLane are honorees.  All proceeds once again benefit the Houston Area Women Center. 713-781-0053 is the number to call.

On Aug. 19, the Women of Wardrobe (W.O.W.)—a dynamic group of young women who support the mission of Dress for Success—hold their Sizzling Summer Soiree with news anchors Shern-Min Chow, Lauren Freeman and Sharron Melton headlining the schmooze and shopping  fundraiser at Tootsies.

It’s a double header for Anthony Kennedy Shriver, who will be winging to Houston on Sept. 30 to headline two fundraising events. At noon he ’ll be the special guest at the Legacy Community Health Services Luncheon honoring The Hilton Americas ’ Paul-David Van Atta and Paper City’s Holly Moore. That evening, Shriver and Becca Cason Thrash will host the annual Best Buddies Gala for Best Buddies International honoring Ambassador and Mrs. Chase Untermeyer.

Disco diva Taylor Dayne will perform her hit songs Tell It To My Heart, Prove Your Love and many more at the 2009 Bicycle Ball on Sept. 26. Chairs DeeDee and Wallis Marsh and Tina and Nat Wrotenbery are heading up this sure-to-be-sold-out extravaganza for Elves & More, the group that makes it possible for thousands of disadvantaged kids to have their very own bikes. Call 281-460-3596 for ticket information.

“Houston, We Have Lift Off” is the theme of the Houston Symphony’s Opening Night Gala on Sept. 12, following a program conducted by Maestro Hans Graf. Social luminaries Betty and Jesse Tutor, who have supported the Symphony in so many important ways over the years, are the honorees.
love the creativity of Houston. You see it in every invitation that arrives in the mail. You see it in the themes of fundraising events, the entertainment, the menus and especially the d écor. It’s hard to top yourself year after year, but somehow our creative, dedicated and talented event chairs and organizers manage to reach ever greater heights.
