limestone pavers, originally from a medieval Greek village on the island of
Crete that were first laid down in 1192. An open-concept floor plan lends
itself perfectly to the groined ceiling in the hall and the adjoining infinity
ceiling encompassing the great room.
The view from the entrance hall reveals a stunning vignette. Picture a great
room that appears to have been designed for families of great stature from the
past. Oversized wrought iron fixtures hang from the towering ceilings
throughout. A cozy seating area, complete with plush fabrics and antique
furnishings, encircles an original Greek mantle hand carved in the 15th
century. A French 19th century religious painting depicting the crowning of the
Magi completes the room.
To capture the spirit of the Christmas season, Westmoreland chose Casablanca
lilies for the coffee table in the great room. Both fragrant and long lasting,
they worked perfectly for entertaining. Green apples were placed in the base of
the arrangement, adding bright contrast and natural appeal. The mantle was
decorated with fresh magnolia garland, Noble fir, cedar, eucalyptus and
heather.
A lovely round table became an instant focal point in the room.

Adorned with the homeowners’ collection of saintly statues, it effortlessly spoke to the Christian theme of
Christmas. White and green hydrangeas placed between the collectibles add
warmth and cheer.
To the right of the entrance hall is the gentleman’s office and cognac bar. The entire room is finished in multi-paneled and beamed
knotty (red) Alder wood from the Pacific Northwest. A reproduction partners
desk, which delicately conceals modern computer equipment, is the centerpiece
in one-half of the room. A sitting area and cognac bar fill the remainder of
the space. Little was needed to add flair to the room. On the desk, a simple
vase filled with red tulips added festive color, and a modest tree was dressed
in pheasant feathers and ribbon
—a tribute to the homeowners’ passion for hunting.
A staircase is situated to the left of the entrance hall and great room.
Holiday-inspired greenery draped the lower posts of the banister without taking
away from the art and architecture of the space. Fresh magnolia garland was
intertwined with an evergreen garland that combined a mix of cedar, Douglas
fir, Noble fir and heather.
