In August of last year we were asked by our landlord to vacate the premises in 90
days. This onerous request insured that we would be closed for the holiday
season.
I want to take this opportunity to apologize to my many customers for having to
break a 27-year tradition of being open for the Christmas holiday. I spent more
than two months packing up boxes of Houston
’s history and gallery records in anticipation of finding a new location that
would better serve my preservation needs. It
’s amazing what a person like me can accumulate over a 14-year period of time in
one spot. Some of these recently rediscovered historical treasures will be on
display at our new west Houston location. The promotion and presentation of
vintage Houston photography will continue to be my focus.
The new location is smaller and streamlined for efficiency; however, the same
level of customer service will remain. So after a relocation effort of 60 days,
I am happy to announce that our new gallery location at 1570 South Dairy
Ashford, Suite 113 is now open.
I invite all of my readers to come and visit the new location and see up close
and personal a
small part of our great city’s past. If you mention Houston Lifestyles & Homes magazine, you will receive a 2010 vintage Texas Oil calendar free of charge!
My new gallery needs plenty of light. These Edison Mazda bulbs sold at 6 for
$1.32. Not a bad deal for 1929. This display was in the Houston Lighting and
Power building window.
• Moving all of that historical junk required several trucks. This 1926 ABC
moving van would have worked just fine. Its warehouse was located at 2501
Commerce Street.
• So hop in your 1928 air cooled Franklin automobile and visit the new gallery.
This man was headed towards downtown on Buffalo Drive. The Esperson building
was the tallest visible structure on the skyline.
