Houston Lifestyles & Homes June 2009

he city of Houston’s historical preservation or, for that matter, the presentation of Houston’s history is very important in maintaining a well developed community. My efforts for the past decade have been to ensure that at least a small slice of our past is preserved for the next generation of Houstonians.

Houston Lifestyles and Homes magazine has generously provided me this page to share a piece of our community ’s photographic history. Our partnership has provided insight into Houston’s past and hopefully inspired the reader to look further into Houston’s history.
This month my book Houston in the 1920’s and 1930’s will be released. It was published by Arcadia Press. They specialize in printing the small slices of
houston during the 1920s and 1930s

Cynthia Grey Milk fund group - Volunteers working the streets of Houston for donations in 1930. The Auditorium Hotel - Working the front desk was never boring in 1927.  The Metropolitan 1930 - What’s better than a Saturday matinee for fun? One of my favorite photographs and it graces the cover of my new book.

“These historic and rare images not only inform, but are also entertaining.”
American history such as the photographic images contained in my vintage Houston collection.
The book covers several aspects of how we lived, worked and played during the good times of the 1920s and the trials of the depression in the 1930s. I selected more than 200 photographs to represent these two decades in this new book. These historic and rare images not only inform, but are also entertaining. It is my hope that it will provide an opportunity for families to discuss their own history with each other.
I will be hosting a book signing at 1 p.m. on June 27 at my west Houston gallery, 2616 Fondren. Everyone is welcome to stop by. Mention Houston Lifestyles and Homes magazine and receive a bonus black and white poster of vintage Houston with every book purchase. l
