recital with Christopher O
’Riley at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts on March 4 as part of the
CenterPoint Energy Music Series Arts Talk! sponsored by Invesco Aim. The H-E-B
Performance Prelude by Cinco Ranch High School Orchestra will begin at 7:30
p.m.
Sir James Galway, nicknamed “the man with the golden flute,” is widely regarded as both a supreme interpreter of the classical flute
repertoryand a consummate entertainer. As the most televised and recorded
classical artist performing today, Sir James tours extensively and has sold
over 30 million albums. He will be joined by groundbreaking pianist and host of
National Public Radio
’s popular classical music show From the Top Christopher O'Riley.

The Barry Sea Paradox In Concert, Thursdays and Saturdays
Barry and Barbara (Bobbie) Sea (Siegel) are appearing with their group, The
Barry Sea Paradox, every Thursday and Saturday at two Post Oak Grill locations.
One of Texas
’ hottest groups, The Barry Sea Paradox has a hit CD that is played often on
KTSU-FM, KPVU-FM and Ronnie Renfrow
’s Classic Cool radio show on 650 AM. They’ve appeared at many of Texas’ finest clubs playing music they describe as “Smooth Jazz with a Rough Edge Called Soul.” It includes a wide variety of jazz, R&B, oldies, swing and even some country. It’s ideal for dancing, or you can just sit back, listen, and enjoy. The group has
appeared on
Hometown Live on ABC affiliate Channel 13, Great Day Houston on CBS affiliate Channel 11, and Fox Rocks on Channel 26.
Performances are held on Thursdays, 6 p.m.-10 p.m., Post Oak Grill Cafe
(Midtown), 3017 Milam (just north of Elgin); and Saturdays, 8 p.m.-midnight,

river oaks garden club azalea trail, march 6-8
Houstonians will celebrate the arrival of spring with River Oaks Garden Club’s 74th annual Azalea Trail March 6-8 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
Azalea Trail 2009 will feature four private homes and gardens, as well as Bayou
Bend, Rienzi and the River Oaks Garden Club Forum of Civics Building and
Gardens.
Tickets for seven admissions are $15 before March 6 and $20 during the trail.
The price is $5 per location.
Rodeo uncorked! champion wine auction and dinner, march 7
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Wine Auction Committee will host the annual
Champion Wine Auction and Dinner at the Methodist Training Center (across from
Reliant Stadium) on March 7 at 6 p.m.
The event will kickoff with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, featuring more than 200 award-winning wines and a silent auction
featuring various wine-related packages. At 7 p.m., attendees will enjoy a
sumptuous five-course seated dinner, and winning wines will be auctioned to the
highest bidders
in the live auction beginning at
8 p.m.
A limited number of reserved tables can be purchased for $2,500, $4,000 or
$7,500. Limited individual tickets are available for $325.
Net proceeds from the auction benefit the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Pamela Halverson, owner and furniture designer, will host a new artist and open
the collection with a reception on March 12 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. in her showroom
located at 8200 Washington Avenue. This show will feature Pamela
’s long time friend, artist Katalin Ehling. The evening will include
complimentary gift bags, cocktails, hors d
’oeuvres, and the atmosphere to satisfy any art lover. Guests can browse the show
room with pieces of furniture and inspiring pieces of art.
5th Annual Empty Bowls, march 21
The 5th Annual Empty Bowls will be held on March 21 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the
Center for Contemporary Craft, 4848 Main and Lawndale Art Center, 4912 Main.
This is an international effort to fight hunger, implemented in Houston to
benefit the Houston Food Bank. For a minimum $25 donation, attendees receive a
simple lunch of soup, bread and water, and then select a bowl from hundreds of
one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted bowls donated by Houston area ceramists and craft
artists.
assistance league of houston celebrates texas art, march 12
The Assistance League of Houston will hold its annual celebration of Texas
artists on March 12 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Williams Tower Gallery, 2800 Post
Oak Blvd. The event will feature 41 artists from various areas of Texas with 48
pieces of art exhibited. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and
third-place honors ranging from $1,250-$5,000. Art will be exhibited at the
Williams Tower Gallery through April 17.
