Architect Ray Bailey fondly recalls the process of designing this house in the
early 1980s. The clients, from New England, wanted to bring a slice of home to
Texas.
“It’s still one of my favorites,” says Bailey, a prolific designer who has won numerous awards over the years for
his projects. Think New England with a twist. Contemporary details mix with New
England style reserve, pulling off the perfect hybrid design. Groupings of
mullioned wooden windows and an unusual stepped chimney are some of the
features that garnered this house a 1985 Houston AIA award.
“Working on this house was like creating a piece of art,” Bailey was quoted as saying back then. “It will only get better with age.”
