More than 250 people attended the first-ever “Mission Incredible” fundraiser, benefiting the late Sister Helen Gay’s Mission of Yahweh shelter for homeless women and children. Honoree Warner

The Houston Fire Department may be generating some heated headlines lately, but
controversy will be set aside on Sept. 11 as the Fire Fighters Foundation holds
its 4th Annual Dinner
“The Face of Heroes -Answering the Call.” The event, co-chaired by Bill King, Philamena Baird, Jim McIngvale and Jane B. Page, will be held at the home of Astrid and Gene Van Dyke in honor of all men and women serving in the City of Houston Fire Department. To

And on that topic, the educational and outreach programs of The Houston Fire
Museum will be supported by the Sept. 25 Rescue Me Gala, chaired by
Barbara Van Postman and Cheryl Byington. Guests in “Red Hot Chic” attire will help honor Brady Carruth and Troy Blakeney with the Community Hero Award.

The audience will be spellbound as former Houston Ballet super-star Li Cunxin tells his inspirational life story at the “Writers in the Schools” 25th anniversary celebration on Nov. 5. The film version of Li’s top selling book about his dramatic defection from communist China, Mao’s Last Dancer, was shot on location in China, Houston and Australia (where Li and his family
now live). It
debuts at the Toronto Film Festival this month and will be released in the U.S.
soon. Li

Sixty years of marriage deserves a major celebration, and Barbara and Ulyesse LeGrange did just that. The devoted couple took over Tony’s restaurant for an elegant dinner party and delighted the crowd when the
Richard Brown Orchestra played three new love songs Ulyesse wrote for Barbara.
