Wayne Newton, chairman of the USO Celebrity Circle, received the Heart of
Service Award at the Houston West Chamber of Commerce
’s Salute to Veterans luncheon held at the Omni Houston Westside.
Newton received the award because of his heartfelt patriotism. He has
entertained troops during every major confrontation the country has been in
since Vietnam and has traveled there twice. In October of 2000, Bob Hope and
the USO passed the torch naming him the
“Chairman of the USO Celebrity Circle.” From 2001-04, he had taken 16 USO tours overseas. He was also the first
performer to entertain troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
